Data Modernization Initiative
Led a comprehensive, enterprise-wide data modernization program, expanding from an initial data migration project to a full-scale transformation of legacy systems. Developed and executed a strategic 2-year product roadmap while serving dual roles as Product Manager for the data engineering team and Program Manager for the initiative.
As both Product & Program Manager, I oversaw the complete data ecosystem transformation, led migration from legacy data warehouse (MSSQL) to centralized enterprise data warehouse (Snowflake), conducted thorough source data ingestion pattern discovery, and restructured project scope based on findings to achieve more comprehensive modernization.
A key focus of this initiative was aligning with the future business needs of the Rides business (taxi, public transport) at Booking.com. As teams scaled, data needs were also changing and increasing, requiring a forward-thinking approach to data architecture. This involved continuously identifying core business use cases—both current and future—to ensure our work would be future-proof while maintaining business continuity without disrupting existing systems.
Strategic Approach
Divided the initiative into five parallel workstreams to ensure focused delivery:
Event Tracking Restructuring
Complete redesign of behavioral event tracking systems to improve data quality and accessibility.
Ingestion Pattern Modernization
Updated methods for consuming data from relational transactional product databases for improved efficiency.
Reporting Revamp
Comprehensive optimization of reporting and dashboards in collaboration with analysts to enhance data visualization.
Stream Consolidation
Deprecation and centralization of outdated and underutilized data streams to reduce complexity and maintenance costs.
Historical Data Migration
Systematic transfer of historical data from legacy DWH to centralized enterprise DWH (Snowflake) ensuring data continuity.
